The History of the Association
The founder of the Association was Doreen Chaney who is blind and campaigned for better transport for disabled people. Wandsworth Association was started in the late 80's - early 90's. During her time associated with the association, Doreen was awarded an M.B.E. for her services for the disabled. Doreen has now retired and lives in Devon with her guide dog.
The association has changed its name over the years and is now called Wandsworth Access Association of people with disabilities.
The Association meets, Approximately 8 times per year.

Purpose of the Association
The objectives of the Association are:
(a) To promote the needs and raise awareness, about issues facing disabled people and to ensure that all facilities are accessible for them.
(b) To advise Wandsworth Council, and other public and non governmental organisations on issues relating to disability.
(c) To ensure disable people are treated more favourably, and have equal access to services and facilities.
(d) To campaign for better accessible transport, as well as an improved indoor and outdoor recreational facilities for disabled people.
(e) To provide information help and support for disabled people, regarding access and mobility problems and all issues relating to equality.
(f) To provide outreach and training for disabled people, to enable them to play an active role in the community.
